Jerkbait John's Fishing Report

The 2008 Musky season is off to a slow start. A late ice out coupled with constant cold fronts since early May has resulted in late Musky spawning due to cold water temperatures. The spawn is all but over now except on the largest lakes as of June 1st. Over the next ten days fishing will improve dramatically if the weather warms and good weed growth persists. In the meantime use a slow retrieve on small twitch baits, plastics, and baby bucktails. Fish shallow near the shoreline muck/sand line and look for the warmest water and green weeds on the north shores. As the water warms the bite from the big girls will develop soon!!!!!!!! 6/02/08 6/11/08 A large 48 inch Musky was boated and released today by Rattlemaster Rick Pearce. A beautiful fish with a large girth caught on a flourescent baby bulldawg in the shallows. Great job Rick!!!! 7/12/08 Water Temps on the big lakes are now in the low 70's despite the frequent cold fronts and very windy days. Big fish are beginning to move especially in the early morning and evenings. Weed growth is good and the fish are moving deeper with some big fish suspended durings the bright sunny days. However they are moving in in the low light periods. Some big hawgs will be taken soon. The fish are fully recuperated from spawn and ready to bite given some consistent warm temperatures. Hang On!
